A note from the founder

We started this because scores out of ten were lying to us

TurboExpedition began in 2019 as a shared Google Doc between four mates who met queuing for a Melbourne International Games Week signing. We were tired of 9/10s handed out before a game had even shipped a day-one patch, so we made a rule: we finish everything before we write a word.

Today the blog runs on the same principle from a converted warehouse off Chapel Street. Every review logs total hours played, every guide is captured from our own footage, and every take is one we would defend in the comments. If we love it, we will tell you why. If it wastes your weekend, we will tell you that too.

We accept review copies so we can cover games at launch, but money never changes hands for coverage. Any code we receive is disclosed at the top of the article, and a free copy has zero effect on the verdict. If a publisher asks for approval over a score, we walk.

We dropped the traditional 1-to-10 scale in 2021. Instead every review ends with a plain-English verdict — Play It, Wait for a Sale, or Skip It — plus the total hours we put in. It respects your time and your wallet more than a decimal ever could.

The main feature drops every Thursday at 7pm AEST, with shorter guides and news posts throughout the week. The free Thursday newsletter rounds everything up so you never miss a piece.

Absolutely — we love hearing from Australian and NZ players. Email us a short pitch with links to any past writing or runs. We read every submission and usually reply within a week, and we pay published guest contributors a flat AUD 220 per feature.

We split roughly half and half. New releases get full-playthrough reviews, while our retro coverage focuses on restoration logs and preservation. If a remaster lands, we compare it side-by-side with original hardware on the CRT wall.

Yes, the studio sits just off Chapel Street in Windsor. We are not a public venue, but we host a casual community game night on the last Friday of each month — details go out through the newsletter and RSVP is first-in, best-dressed.
